Black galaxy granite, as the name suggests, is a type of black granite. The appearance of metallic granulations or specks make it glitter on polishing. Just like the stars in the galaxy, hence the name. It is an extremely popular type of granite. It is preferred for flooring, counter tops, wall cladding among other uses. It is found in abundance in the city of Ongole, in Andhra Pradesh state of India.
Incidentally Ongole is also the world’s largest exporter of black galaxy granite. The city is bustling with activity and a majority of the factories are spread across Ongole, and Chimakurthy nearby. The demand for black galaxy granite within India, and globally has been increasing year on year, and this has spurred the growth of the economy of the city. The number of factories processing the stone is ever increasing.
The stone is robust and is commercially used for flooring and tiling. It has also found place in awesome table tops and vanity articles. Black galaxy mainly finds its application in commercial establishments and shops, or public spaces, mainly due to the glitter of the surface. In homes it may not be suitable for flooring, mainly due to the dark colour of the stone. It may give the room a dark appearance. The beauty of the stone stands out under bright lighting and hence you may have to modify the lighting of your room.
